Proper soil preparation is crucial for the successful establishment and long-term health of sod.
Rake the soil to remove large rocks, sticks, or other debris. This creates a smoother surface for the sod to establish.
Use a garden rake to level the soil surface, filling in low spots and removing high spots. A smooth, even surface helps ensure good sod-to-soil contact and an even lawn.
Spread 3-4 inches of topsoil over the area to be sodded, or rototill the existing area.
Spread the lime and fertilizer over the soil before laying sod.
We recommend:
Fertilizer: 10-10-10 or 10-6-4
25lbs per 1000 sq. ft.
Lime: Pelletized Lime
50lbs per 1000 sq. ft.
This provides essential nutrients to support the initial growth and establishment of the sod.
